What to Wear to The Lake for A Summer Weekend

I grew up in the Midwest, so lake cottages hold a special place in my heart. As much as I enjoy going to the beach (which I do! ), I really enjoy getting out into nature. In the summer, we liked going to the lake house for weekends and spent our days canoeing, kayaking, fly fishing, sailing, and swimming to the dock.

It’s the ideal getaway when you just want to unwind without running into anyone you know. It’s also ideal for hosting parties for friends and family reunions. Everyone can simply unwind and spend their days on the lake having fun, and their evenings on the pier cooking, creating s’mores, and drinking. Even though there is less pressure to dress up and be seen, I still like to plan what to wear for a weekend at the lake in the summer. There are a lot of photos shot, and let’s face it, whenever we go away for the weekend, I’m packing and choosing outfits. The charm of the lake is that the dress is as relaxed and carefree as the natural surroundings. As a result, I don’t have to worry about what to dress on a summer weekend at the lake. For summer weekends at the lake, I normally bring cutoff shorts, tees, flip flops, and casual outfits.

I don’t pack anything too elaborate or complicated; instead, I focus on packing items that can be worn over a bikini. Long caftans and loose maxi dresses that can function as coverups and be slipped on quickly while preparing dinner are usually my favorites.
