How to Construct the Ideal Reading Nook

How to Construct the Ideal Reading Nook

A carefree afternoon or even five minutes is a rarity in our hectic lives. However, designating areas in our homes for calm activities like reading a book, going through a stack of magazines, or even putting on a mud mask and meditating can serve as reminders to slow down and find time for self-care in the midst of stressful schedules. This can be accomplished with a reading nook. A reading nook is a location where you can sit and take a breath, even if a nice chair, plush throw cushion, and ottoman invite you to crack open a beloved book. It should be a section of your home, or maybe an entire room, dedicated to your own wants and personality.

How to Construct the Ideal Reading Nook

What are some of your favorite things to do when you want to relax? Is that an Etsy-purchased warm handwoven throw blanket? A little table piled high with books, artwork, and fresh flowers? Maybe it’s because I’m surrounded by an indoor jungle of houseplants. The key is to think about what makes you happy and calm, and include those qualities into your reading nook. To get you started, here are some inspiring spaces.

Make a Reading Nook for Two People

Bring a loveseat into your reading nook if you prefer to read with a significant other, friend, or pet. Take a page from The Merrythought’s book and fill it with plush throw pillows, as well as wall art, quotes, and images that make you feel good.

Incorporate a splash of color

Color has the ability to quickly make you happy. If you want your reading nook to be your happy spot, a bright splash of color could be just what you need. Tessie Fay, a watercolor artist and surface pattern designer, has created a cheery palette with a vibrant green chair, lovely polka-dot pillow, and pink side table in this delightful reading nook.

Leave the chair at home.

A reading nook doesn’t always require a chair, as this tribal-themed nook created by Sarah Gibson of Room for Tuesday demonstrates. Faux-fur pelts, a throw blanket, and hand-dyed shibori pillows are housed in a little nook (which you can DIY yourself). A camp chair can also be used as a small table.

Make it a place where you can take impromptu naps.

A reading nook, as previously said, does not have to be used only for reading. It can be your go-to area for unwinding and recharging, a place where an impromptu snooze is perfectly appropriate. Niki Brantmark of My Scandinavian Home has achieved this, with a lounge chair, soft pillows, a blanket, and even a sophisticated mobile appropriate for grownups, establishing the environment for reading and dozing alike.

Create a Gallery Wall

When you put your book down, you can let your thoughts roam, taking in the sights and sounds around you. Create stunning scenery by creating a gallery wall with some of your favorite items, such as vintage signage, old photographs, and other treasures that make you happy. The Belmont Ranch’s gallery wall, curated by Sarah Melito, is a terrific source of inspiration.

Sit in a Houseplant Jungle

Plants have been scientifically shown to improve our mood. Our spirits improve and tension is reduced when we bring the outside in. Why not surround a reading nook with a gathering of oh-so-green houseplants to make it a relaxing space? In Hil, palm trees give off a very tropical vibe.
