Anthony Edwards’ Witty Invitation Lures Charles Barkley to Minneapolis After Historic Timberwolves Win

A feat not seen in more than 20 years has been done by Anthony Edwards, the emerging star of the Minnesota Timberwolves: he has persuaded Charles Barkley to come to Minneapolis.

Edwards extended the invitation—”Bring ya ass,” in a straightforward but audacious way—during a post-game interview with the Inside the NBA team on TNT, which followed the Timberwolves’ thrilling victory over the defending champion Denver Nuggets in Game 7. The Timberwolves overcame a 20-point hole in this historic victory, which guaranteed their first trip to the Western Conference Finals since 2004.

Edwards shot back with a quick wit after Barkley casually said that he would be making his first trip to Minneapolis since that 2004 season. Barkley even asked Edwards for dinner recommendations, finding the invitation humorous.

With 16 points on 6 of 24 shots, Edwards’ effort in Game 7 wasn’t the most statistically remarkable, but there was no denying his influence. In the second half, he stood out for his outstanding defense on Jamal Murray, racking up a team-high seven assists.

Edwards’ lighthearted comment that he had Murray in “handcuffs” in the second half of the game is indicative of his developing self-assurance and leadership skills. He is only 22 years old, but already he has become a key player in the Timberwolves’ comeback and their historic postseason run.

The Dallas Mavericks will be the Timberwolves’ next opponent in the Western Conference Finals, which begin on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET on TNT. The excitement around this showdown between two youthful, athletic teams is enhanced by Edwards’ charm and skill on the court.

Edwards is a rising star in the NBA and a favorite of the fans thanks to his captivating personality both on and off the court—as seen by his now-viral exchange with Barkley. All eyes will be on Edwards as he tries to guide his club to the highest reward—an NBA championship—when the Timberwolves continue their playoff run.
